In my opinion, interracial dating will always be a controversial subject because racism still exists and the people who seek to date outside of their race are currently outnumbered by the people who don't. Either they are opposed to it, or because they feel no romantic curiosity about "other races" or temptation to date "other races".

If you are tempted to believe that people are more open-minded nowadays and interracial dating is more widely accepted, just do a little research on the subject of racism in the world at large and the blinders will fall off in no time. Unfortunately, for every growth in the number of black men/white women couples and black women/white men couples, I believe there's more than quadruple the number of new people who join hate groups every day. It appears to me that racism is growing at a faster rate than racial harmony. So more people are talking about the impact that interracial dating has on society than are talking about the impact that racism has on society.

What Should You Do?

Is it really better to turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the harsh realities of racism? Well, if you think about it, there's nothing you can do to convert people who thrive on their hateful thoughts and feelings, and the only result of listening to it and looking at it and reacting to it is that you yourself will be angry and filled with hate. If you find that turning a deaf ear and a blind eye allows you to live a happier, more peaceful life, then I believe you should do what you must to stay happy and at peace.

As interracial dating and relationships remains a controversial subject, it is important to surround yourself with supportive individuals. Healthy relationships are built on mutual love and respect whether the partners are from the same race or not. As the boundaries between countries and ethnicities are intermingled, more interracial connections are going to occur. Keep in mind that all people come from different backgrounds no matter what their race. Therefore, it is important to accept that all relationships come with some challenges. The first step toward the reduction of racism is to learn to accept and understand all individuals - whether they are from the same ethnicity as you or not.

As the world gets smaller via media such as internet and television, next to increased travel, so does the exposure and understanding of other cultures and ethnicities. The younger generations largely embrace all these new opportunities to learn, explore and discover. They feel more comfortable to do what they believe is right, even when this means doing something that other generations didn't. Although we are not where we should be yet, we have made significant progress over the last fifty years, compared to the thousands of years before that. Fortunately this process of change in which interracial dating will be just as common and non interracial dating is in my opinion unstoppable. True love doesn't see race or color. Only fear of the unknown, insecurity or ignorance does. At some point people who are not open to change and hold on to their old values and beliefs, while the world is changing every day will be the ones considered controversial at best.

The first step toward the reduction of racism is to learn to accept and understand all individuals - whether they are from the same ethnicity as you or not.That seems pretty neutral to me.Regardless, as a white male, who is attracted to women of the black culture on a physical level, I must note that racism must be overcome by each of us on an individual level. I was raised in racist small mid-western town and also was exposed to racist groups of all colors and cultures while in federal prison. There are racists and non-racists in every cultural background. We must focus on our own heart and learn how to love others regardless of there lineage or family tree.

It's very funny how the author uses the word "racism" again. However, I'll bet you 10 to 1 that this author has in mind WHITE people exclusively.

There is nothing wrong with pursuing legitimate ethnic and group interests. That is not "racism." Trotsky invented the word "racism" in the context of ruling-class ideology. As white person, I have no desire to RULE over anyone on the basis of race. I don't believe that anyone is superior or inferior. I believe in endogamous (intraracial dating) because I want to maintain in-group values, culture, and interests.

Please stop with the political attacks against whites. I hardly doubt you would call Jews "racist," even though the organized Jewish community proscribes interracial dating.
