Unique Romantic Gifts to Deliver
From LoveToKnow Dating
Flowers, chocolate, and cards are all well and good, but what are some unique romantic gifts to deliver to your sweetie? Thinking outside the box can really show that special someone how you really feel.
They are Special: Their Gifts Should Be Too
There is a whole industry created around what culture thinks people should think is romantic. "Hallmark holidays" like Sweetest Day in October are harmless in and of themselves, but if you follow blindly what the ads tell you to buy for your love, you are just going with the herd. How special will a dozen roses be for her if everyone else in the office got a dozen roses too?
But you have an advantage, you know your partner better than the advertisers do. Therefore, you can go with the theme of the occasion but personalize it. For example, if your boyfriend is a mechanic, a dozen roses might not thrill him - but get him a dozen wrenches of various sizes, all done up in a pretty bow, and he'll be delighted! If your girlfriend is into exercising, getting her a box of chocolates probably won't go over terribly well - but giving her a heart-shaped box with a gift certificate to her favorite clothing store inside shows that you're paying attention. That is the key to making any gift both unique and romantic - taking the time to pay attention to what it is your partner would like but wouldn't buy.
Unique Romantic Gifts to Deliver in Creative Ways
Once you've figured out what to get your special someone, you should also take some thought in how to deliver it - in fact, sometimes that's part of the gift itself. A unique romantic gift to deliver could be setting a trail of clothes for your lover to follow through the house until he or she reaches the bedroom where you wait au naturel with a special bottle of wine, a sumptuous meal, and perhaps a romantic game for the two of you to play. While that is not unique in concept, it may be the only time your lover has received such a gift, and that makes it very special.
However, just like the chocolates or flowers, you run the risk of it being a cliché. Try to make the presentation of the gift as thrilling a surprise as the gift itself. If you bought a full DVD set of your partner's favorite TV show (not the most romantic gift), perhaps you could plant each disc in places he or she will find it during the day - a dresser drawer, bathroom cabinet, near the breakfast cereal. Just make sure you end the "delivery" with something personal - a love coupon for a date to watch them together, for example.
Giving the Unexpected
It's a little more risky, but you can also give a gift that your partner doesn't actually realize he or she wants. These can be things or experiences, such as:
- Hot air balloon rides
- Tickets to an independent theatre show
- A musical instrument (include at least one free lesson from a local teacher)
- A dress or other article of clothing that is not your partner's usual style but that you think he or she would look good in
- A spa treatment, mani/pedicure, or makeover session with a beautician
- A couples-based class in something new like cooking, dancing, martial arts, or other activity that is new for both of you
The risk is that your partner might not like the gift. That's ok; as long as you don't take it personally, your partner can appreciate the thought behind it and you'll know better what to give next time.
What Not to Give
Keep in mind the gifts need to be for your partner. Don't give tickets to the show you want to see, or the kitchen appliance you've been wanting, and expect him or her to see it as a romantic gift. Your love shows through in learning and meeting your partner's unique desires in ways no one else can.
