TG Personals is a free dating site that caters to the transgender community. It was created to give transgendered men and women the option to find partners that do not fall within the gender boundaries allowed on most traditional dating sites. While the site is open to people that live anywhere, it seems that most people who use the site are residents of the United States.
Searching for Partners
People that use TG Personals can search for a partner for love or just for companionship in one of the following categories:
- Female to male transgendered persons
- Male to female transgendered persons
- People who like to dress as the opposite gender
- Androgynous females or males
- Intersexed males or females
- Men or women who aren’t transgendered
Other criteria that people can search for are:
- Age
- Sexual orientation
- Height
- Weight
- Religion
- Ethnicity
- Income level
People can also specify whether they are willing to travel for a date.
Placing an Ad on TG Personals
In order to place on ad on the site a person must first sign up for an account. To do so, all that is required is a username, an email address and a password that is at least four characters long. Ads can feature up to 1000 words of text plus a caption. Photos are not required but are allowed as long as they are not explicit in nature. They can be posted once the ad goes live. Each ad can be active for either 90, 180 or 365 days, depending on the user’s preference. All ads are subject to TG Personals’ guidelines.
Responding to an Ad
Replying to an ad on the TG Personals site is very simple to do. When a person finds someone that looks interesting all that person needs to do is click on reply to ad at the bottom of the profile. A box will come up where a message can be entered and sent directly to the person's email address. The site has no restrictions on sending contact information in the message although it recommends that people who prefer anonymity post their own ad and provide a link to that ad instead. People who search the ads can also set up the auto-notify option, which will send them an email when people who fit their chosen criteria post new ads.
Restrictions and Warnings on the Site
Due to the somewhat adult nature of the site, people under the age of 18 are not allowed to search, post or respond to ads. The owners of the site also warn people to search with care. Since it is a free site there are some who use it as an opportunity to post scams to try to cheat people out of money. This is one of the reasons why it’s not a good idea to send personal information before getting to know someone.
Other Information on the Site
TG Personals provides information on transgendered persons to people who may be unfamiliar with the lifestyle. The site also helps people who may still be adjusting to being transgender by providing links to resources, such as advocacy and support groups and news sites. Anyone who would like to recommend a link should send an email to webmaster@tgpersonals.com.
The site management advertises that it gets thousands of unique visitors per month from all over the world. Even though this may be true, it does not have nearly as many ads posted as some other popular personals sites. This could make it more difficult for a person to find an appropriate partner. However, this is one of the few dating sites that caters to this niche group, and it only takes one other person to make a successful pairing.
