Singles Clubs
From LoveToKnow Dating
| ||||
Singles clubs provide venues for social gatherings specifically geared towards individuals seeking a romantic partner. In the same vein as typical clubs, singles clubs are organizations attempting to bring together people with similar interests, beliefs, and life circumstances. While a gardening club might attract people who like gardening, a singles gardening club attracts those who enjoy gardening and also single.
What Are You Looking For?
Different activities attract different types of people. Are you looking for a long-term relationship or a party? A club that holds meet and greets in the library may be more conducive to a long-term relationship than a club that meets in a swingers club.
One of the most common complaints amongst singles is that they are tired of meeting people at bars, but they just don’t know where else to go. Singles clubs pose an attractive and hip alternative to the bar scene.
Choosing a Singles Club
So what kinds of clubs are there? Clubs exist for almost any reason you can imagine. Choosing a club may seem like a daunting task, hence, the most popular club categories have been listed below:
- Location: e.g. “Singles in San Francisco” or “Singles in New York” - Most people want to meet friends who live near them. Check the organizations in your area.
- Age: Many clubs have age requirements, e.g. “Singles 20-30s” or “Singles over 50”. Singles night might not be that fun if everyone is on SSI and you haven't even reached the legal drinking age.
- Race/Nationality: "Black Singles” or “Latino Singles”
- Religion: “Jewish Singles” or “Christian Singles”
- Activity - “Single Chess Players” or “Single Fitness Fanatics”
- A combination, such as “Single, Black, Christian, Californian, Dodger Fans between 21-30”: Yes, some groups have very specific criteria. Experiment with different clubs and organizations. We all have many interests and can fit into many club categories.
For better or worse, most singles clubs are assumed to be heterosexual unless otherwise stated. If you are seeking partners of the same sex, make sure to inquire before you attend.
Online Dating
Some consider online dating communities to be large singles clubs. The people who use these sites have the following in common: they are looking for someone; they speak the same language; and they have access to the Internet. Online dating services usually charge a fee to allow the user access to the company search engine and members' database. For more detailed information, see Online Dating.
A Charitable Alternative
Many cities have clubs where singles conglomerate to perform community services or charity work. Doesn’t it seem as though every time you do something altruistic, nobody notices? Wouldn’t it be great if an attractive member of the opposite sex were standing in front of you whenever you preformed good deeds? Here is your opportunity. You’ll leave feeling good about yourself whether you go home with a phone number or not.
Do a little research and you'll increase your chances of finding a kindred spirit.
