About The Sims Virtual Dating

The Sims is a people simulator available from Electronic Arts. The game was a rousing success when it was released, allowing people to create their virtual avatars or random characters and helping them get a job, clean house and take care of their virtual lives. Multiple expansion packs add to what players can experience in the game.

The Sims: Hot Date expansion pack adds virtual dating to the wide range of activities that Sims can engage in. Players can create love interests, restaurants, shops, parks and any number of other locations where Sims can hook up, make out and get together. The challenge, however, is in how Sims make love connections.

Love Connections

In Sims virtual dating as in real dating, you can match your Sims up with a romantic interest, but anything can go wrong for the couple. They may not spark passion. They may fight. One might be too frisky. Some relationships will heat up and fizzle out quickly. Some characters can actually be total bombs at the relationship game no matter whom you match them up with.

During your character's virtual dating life they'll be able to flirt, play footsie and even invite a kiss. The more fascinating your characters are, the more likely they are to find themselves the object of character lust. Your Sim might even be juggling more than one love interest at a time.

Virtual Dating Goals

The goal of dating virtually or dating in The Sims is pure entertainment. Arguments can be made for the social experiment, but the goal is to have fun and to experiment in a safe, albeit controlled environment. The game programmers allowed for an X factor so that not all game behavior is completely predictable.

Can virtual dating in The Sims help you with dating problems in real life? That is not the design of the game, but some people may find themselves trying to pair up their avatar or Sim with another that matches someone they are interested in real life.

The Sims Online allows players to take their virtual reality play to the next level. The characters their avatars interact with often have real people on the other side of the computer screen. Virtual dating in an online game is different from the expansions because another person's needs, interests, and desires come into play.

Changing Interests in The Sims

One of the challenges in The Sims: Hot Date is the new interests that your Sims will have. In order to maintain a healthy conversation with other Sims, they will need to have compatible interests. As in real life, if you're hanging out with someone who just wants to talk cars and all you care about is music, you will quickly grow bored with each other.

If you want to change your Sims interests, you have to buy magazines that feature a competing interest or interest you want to 'train' your Sims in. So if you think your Sims perfect match is interested in sports, you can teach your Sims about sports by buying them sports magazines. Remember, however, the more sports magazines they read, the lower their other interests will dip. Practicing moderation will keep other interests up.
