Silly Poems for Valentines
From LoveToKnow Dating
Silly poems for Valentines take people back to childhood. Children love silly poems, limericks and jokes that let them giggle and grin. The entire goal of a silly poem is to elicit a laugh or a chuckle. Giving your Valentine a silly poem lets them enjoy the poem, the smile and the laughter.
Creating Silly Poems for Valentines
Writing your own silly poems for Valentine’s Day may not be as easy as it sounds. Too often, when people try to be silly, they find their efforts falling flat. For example, it is a struggle to know what is funny and what is not. The unexpected response is funny, but often only in the moment. If one person were to ask another, "what did you want to do today," and the person replied with “pie,” the randomness of the answer is very funny at the time, but loses something in the translation.
So how do you know what is silly and what is not? Take a stroll down any humor card aisle in a local store and see what appeals to you. Check out children’s cards in particular, they lean more towards the silly and less to the rude. Too often, silly for one adult translates to rude for another, so you want to be careful of any silly poetry.
How to Write a Silly Poem
For adults who need a quick refresher on writing silly poems. Here are a few simple steps to follow to help you write a silly poem for that special someone in your life.
- Make a List
Create a list of all the funny things your girlfriend or boyfriend has done. If they are obsessive about rubber ducks for example, list rubber ducks. If they stood in line all night on Black Friday to get good deals, write shopper extraordinaire. You want your list to be complimentary, but also to be funny. For example, your list might be: plays games, shops, procrastinates, and likes to make lists.
- Rhyme Time
You want to list a word that rhymes with every word on the first list. If rubber duck is on the original list then tuck, luck, muck (you get the idea) all rhyme with duck, so you choose one and put it in the opposite list. A rhyme for Friday can be say, lay, may, etc.
More examples based on the list of funny things your significant other has done: aims, plops, sates, fists.
- Write your poem
Now that you have your words from the first list and words that rhyme from the second, you can put together your silly poem. You want to use the rhyming words to end each line, but remember, it’s not necessary to make total sense because it’s a silly poem.
Silly Love by Heather Long
My husband plays games
No matter how many times I take aim
My husband loves to shop
He even likes movies that flop
My husband procrastinates
But my love, he always sates
Even if he has to cross it off his lists
Better that than seeing my fist.
