Short Love Text Messages

From LoveToKnow Dating

Why would you bother to send short love text messages to your sweetheart? It might seem that they would be unnecessary or even annoying. It might seem that nothing so short as a text message can be more than banal, cheapening the word "love". However, the right short love text messages can add magic to any relationship.

Love is Always On Your Mind

Western culture is very enamored of the idea of overwhelming passionate love. From Romeo and Juliet through more unconventional relationships like the lesbian love affairs of Aimee and Jaguar, people love the idea of one all-consuming obsession with another.

The reality isn't quite so easy. While "new relationship energy" can be very present even from the first date, as time and routine set in, what was special becomes more commonplace. More than that, there are distractions such as work, friends, and sometimes other family members that can take away from the expressions of love and devotion that were so beautiful in the beginning of a relationship.

This is how technology can be quite helpful. The information age has enabled people to communicate more easily and immediately than ever before. Email, chat, IM, Twitter and cell phones are all ways people keep in touch with their friends and loved ones.

The utility of being able to text "Bring home some milk" cannot be denied. But there's no reason that this medium shouldn't be used to fight against some of the boredom that can cause people to feel like they're being taken for granted. Just as "Bring home some milk" will go into the phone and be there when the recipient has time to look at it, so will "I'm so glad you love me." More than that, it's almost guaranteed to bring a smile.

How to Craft Short Love Text Messages

There are many types of messages that can communicate your feelings to the person you love. Here are just a few, but always remember that your relationship is unique, and your text messages should be too.

The Inside Joke

Intimacy is one of the best things about love, when lives begin to have a common frame of reference and experience. It's the kind of relationship that enables long-established couples to say things like "Remember when we saw that thing at that place where we went that time?" and the two of them know exactly what each other is talking about.

Use this intimacy in text messages. Draw upon shared experience to associate short text messages with larger experiences that you both remember. For example, if your lover got you flowers once at the start of a great date, a short text message like "I'm thinking of the three roses," can set your lover thinking about all sorts of other things unrelated to flowers. "Last night was unforgettable," is a nice example of a loving message based on inside knowledge.

The Suggestive Innuendo

If your relationship is at a point where sexuality is a part of it, using a text message to send a hot and saucy message to your lover can lend spice and zest to his/her whole day. They can be as vague as "Thought of you. Had to drink water to cool down" or as blatant as the classic song "When I think about you, I touch myself."

Because of the relative privacy of text messages, things can get even more blatantly suggestive. However, be very careful that you use phrases and words that your lover is comfortable with. If your lover sends you something that seems shocking or even offensive, try to take it in the spirit of love it was intended, and let him/her know what a more appropriate message would be.

KISS: Keep It Sweet & Simple

Probably the best strategy would be to use the classic, simple, direct compliments. While they might sound trite coming from someone face-to-face, they rarely go wrong when coming from a tiny phone screen:

  • You're wonderful
  • I think you're beautiful
  • I miss you.
  • Can't stop thinking about you.

Finally, never forget one of the most classic and simple king of all loving text messages: I LOVE YOU!
