Seniors dating: A little snow on the roof doesn't mean there isn't a fire still burning in the hearth.
Seniors Dating
Who says you have to give up notions of love and dating when you become a senior citizen? Your desire for companionship and intimacy doesn't automatically diminish just because of your age. Thanks to medical advancements, people are living longer and feeling healthier than expected a century ago. Even Viagra, that romantic wonder drug, is playing a role in the seniors dating scene.
Whether enjoying a lifetime of bachelorhood or re-entering the dating world after the death of a spouse, seasoned citizens still want to have love and romance in their lives. Maybe all seniors aren't looking to marry again, if at all, but friendship does have its rewards, and single seniors enjoy making those connections. After all, life does go on after fifty-five.
May/December Romance
Seniors dating isn't strictly limited to people over the age of fifty-five seeking each other out. There is also a strong contingent of younger singles looking to date the senior crowd. Some of these people truly appreciate the level of wisdom and maturity they find in senior citizens and the physical package isn't really an issue for them.
On the other hand, there is that old perception that men become more distinguished-looking after a certain age, and many people find this enticing. The fact that actor Sean Connery is still a sex symbol so long after his James Bond days attests to this fact.
And let's not forget actress Rhue McClanahan's character from the TV sitcom Golden Girls. The irrepressible Blanche was still sexy and vital enough to attract men of all ages, a source of inspiration for senior ladies everywhere.
Obstacles
Seniors may face special obstacles when dating that younger people encounter less often.
Family
Perhaps one of the greatest obstacles for seniors dating is the reaction of their grown children. It's hard enough to imagine mom and dad in a romantic liaison in their heyday. How much harder is it once they are entering their golden years?
Some grown children simply have a difficult time understanding that their parents are real human beings with the same feelings and needs as younger singles, so they may tend to discourage any budding romance. These same grown children may also be reacting out of concern for their parent, feeling a need to protect him/her from being taken advantage of. This may certainly be a valid concern, but if the senior in question is of sound and healthy mind, interference should be minimal at best.
Health
Health can get in the way of enjoying the senior dating experience too. The aches and pains associated with a body that has lived a great deal of life are unavoidable and may put a damper on romantic activities now and then. However, the right medical therapy can help seniors get a great deal more out of life and dating.
Dating Connections
Where can seniors meet other singles for dating? Just take a look around.
- Senior Centers are a great place for men and women of a certain age to find companionship. Many centers hold dances, and other mixers and activities where seasoned citizens can meet, enjoy some good times, and get to know each other better.
- Church singles groups are another terrific place for seniors to meet like-minded individuals. Many churches have separate social clubs for singles over fifty-five years old, with activities geared to their age and interests. The "group" atmosphere also takes the pressure off, allowing seniors to relax and enjoy themselves without worrying about how they look to others. This is especially beneficial for seniors re-entering the dating scene after a long hiatus.
- Dating services are yet another way for seniors to get together for dating. All dating services employ a questionnaire to help pinpoint personal interests and possible compatibility. Local dating services may be preferable to Dating Web Sites, which may be slightly less convenient for seniors who haven't yet tapped into the Internet information age.
Conclusion
It's true, you're really only as old as you feel, and if you feel like you still have a lot to offer someone romantically, then by all means, get out there and dive into the seniors dating scene. You'll be glad you did.

Comments
When I was growing up, I thought that anyone over 50 already had "one foot in the grave." If you were over 60 then you had "one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banana peel."
But now that I'm in a friendly senior dating site ----PerfectSeniors.com--- my attitude has changed. I feel good and I'm in good health. Now, there are some things that I did in my 30's and 40's that I don't want to do now but I probably still could.
