Seattle Dating
From dating
Seattle dating can be difficult. From the constant drizzle and cloudy skies which dampens spirits to the long hours put in by Microsoft employees—finding someone in the Emerald City isn’t easy. It’s so difficult in fact that the Seattle Times newspaper ran a multi-part series on the struggles faced by local singles. People are still able to find love, however, so let’s explore where you can go to increase your chances of finding someone special.
Seattle Dating: Where to Meet People
The rainy weather causes most people to stay indoors, whether at the local Starbucks or bookstore, or in the many bars and clubs in the city. To meet them, you’ll have to leave the house or office to find them. Here are some great date ideas:
| ||||
- Flowers Bar & Restaurant: Located in the U District, this restaurant and bar is a nice, easy-going hangout to have a drink or meal. Since it’s by the University of Washington, there are plenty of 20-somethings, but also some 30-somethings as well.
- Alibi Room: This restaurant and bar at Pike’s Place Market has great music and dancing. It’s very cramped, however, so you’ll be getting cozy with the people around you—whether you want to or not. If the atmosphere appeals to you, it can be a great Seattle dating place.
- Red Door: A low key bar in the Fremont District which is a good place to meet young professionals while enjoying a drink and sampling the well-priced food.
- Jillians: Even though this a chain bar, it’s still a very popular hang out in the Eastlake/Lake Union area. The drinks and food are expensive, but there are plenty of things to do: play pool, video games and watch sports. You can also play on one of the many ping pong tables. If you have trouble hitting that little white ball, you can find out if a few drinks will improve your hand-eye coordination. This is a great place to come if you can't think of any other first date ideas.
- F.X. McRory’s Steak, Chop & Oyster House: This restaurant in downtown near Safeco Field is a great place to hang out with other Mariners fans. Skip the ballpark and come here instead.
- Skylark Café: This West Seattle club has a nice vibe and great food. Stop by on karaoke nights for even more fun.
- Greenlake Park: This is arguably the most popular park in Seattle, and for good reason. The recreational activities are plentiful, as are the opportunities to people watch. Bring your dog to the dog park area and let your pooch be a conversation starter.
- Elliot Bay Book Company: If you’re the literary type, or just enjoy talking about books, this bookstore in downtown is a great place to meet other like-minded people.
- Marco’s Supperclub: Enjoy a superb meal and soak in the atmosphere in this Belltown restaurant and bar. Unlike some of the other bars in this list, the bar here is mostly populated by 30-somethings.
- Home Depot: Seriously, stores like Home Depot or even the local grocery store are still a great way to meet people, especially if you aren’t into the bar and club scene.
- Church: Seattle will never be confused with the bible-belt, but there are a fair number of really large churches in the Seattle suburbs. Many of them have extensive programs for singles and Seattle dating opportunities.
