Creating Romantic Valentine's Day Cards
Romantic is in the eye of the beholder. Is your girlfriend more likely to get misty-eyed over ribbons and lace or a sleek, modern design? Does your boyfriend prefer to be complimented on his looks or his personality traits? Would your significant other rather read a sappy love poem or a simply stated declaration of your devotion? If you know the answers to these questions, you're well on your way to the perfect Valentine's Day card.

Romantic Ideas and Accents
Consider one of the following ideas to create a heartfelt Valentine or add romance to a store-bought card:
- Write a love letter - In this age of electronic communication, how often do we receive an honest-to-goodness handwritten letter? Not a scribbled note in a card, but a true letter. This alone will make a love letter stand out. Include a lengthy list of your partner's best attributes, and it will be truly unforgettable.
- Write a poem - There's just something about a poem inspired by you that can make any man or woman melt.
- Give a homemade card - Even if your efforts are more kindergarten than crafty, the personal touch can really have an impact.
- Use a romantic quote - Some of the most famous love quotes, like "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day", can add romance and a touch of class to your card. However, any meaningful saying will do. Depending on your personal style and the message you would like to communicate, The Beatles can have just as much to say about love as Shakespeare.
- Write about a favorite memory of you as a couple - If you can recall every detail of the first time you saw your boyfriend or what you were thinking of him during your first date, you'll create an unforgettable memento in addition to a romantic Valentine's Day card. If you're more comfortable speaking, you can also record your remembrance.
- Think outside the box…or the card, to be more specific - Instead of a card, why not present your loved one with a jar full of kisses? These can be chocolate kisses, or they can be slips of paper on which you have written things you love about your girlfriend, so she will feel "kissed" every time she reads a message. If you prefer something more public, rent a local sign with changing messages, or hire a skywriter to share your Valentine's Day thoughts of love. The main idea is to get creative.
- Think big - An oversized card can make quite an impression. You can make your own for a special touch, or purchase extra large designs at most card shops.
- Don't stop with just one - Multiple cards can let you show your love throughout the day and make quite an impression.
- Include personal coupons - Gift coupons are patterned after an I.O.U. Depending on your relationship, they can be promises for favorite activities, like a walk on the beach, or something steamier. These promises can also be an original Valentine's Day gift.
- Have fun - Don't put too much pressure on yourself to think of "perfect" ideas for romantic Valentine's Day cards. Just make sure your message comes from the heart, and it's sure to be well received.
