Romantic Meaningful Gifts
From LoveToKnow Dating
Romantic meaningful gifts are not the same for everybody. Each individual has a different idea as to what holds meaning in his or her relationship. This doesn’t mean that a meaningful gift is hard to come by. It just means that the person giving the gift should put a lot of thought into what it will mean to the recipient.
Ideas for Romantic Meaningful Gifts
There are some meaningful gifts that are fairly universal. These gifts include:
- Books – With literally millions of books to choose from, there is bound to be one that says exactly what you want to say. Plus, you can add your own inscription inside the front cover.
- Homemade meals – If the way to a man’s heart is really through his stomach, imagine how happy he’ll be if you make his favorite meal from his childhood. Note that this works for women too.
- Poems or songs – If you have a strong creative side, write a poem or a song for your special someone. Use a style you know he or she likes. For example, if he or she is a huge Garth Brooks fan, write a country ditty.
- Paintings – This is another artsy meaningful gift. The painting doesn’t have to be 2’ by 2’ on stretched canvas. A painting made on a piece of cardboard and put in a five-dollar frame is just as sweet.
- Jewelry – Both men and women can be jewelry fans. They just like different types of jewelry. You can spend three months’ salary on this gift or just buy some wire and beads at the craft store and string together a sweet saying on a necklace.
- Photo albums or scrapbooks – You can fill either one of these items with memories of your time together. Or, hand it over empty, along with a box of pictures and mementos, so you can assemble it with your partner.
- Day trip or vacation – Take your partner on a surprise getaway to the mountains or the beach, or surprise him or her with a jaunt to the site of your first date or first kiss.
- Flowers – Sure, flowers are a common gift, but it doesn’t have to be. Before picking a bouquet to send, look up its meaning on a site like About Flowers. Have the florist enclose a note explaining why you chose each bloom.
- Spa trip – Even though some men don’t like to admit it, most everyone likes to be pampered, whether it’s with a massage, a facial or a hair or nail treatment. It’s even more meaningful if you go together. Many spas offer couples massages.
Questionable Gift Ideas
Some items may seem like romantic meaningful gifts but often backfire in the long run. Unless you’re sure your partner will like it, do not splurge for one of these:
- Live animals – It may seem cute to buy your partner a puppy, but animals are a long term commitment. This is not a good gift unless he or she has the time and money needed for the animal’s care and wants the responsibility.
- Appliances or electronics – Even if you know your partner needs a new oven, do not give him or her one as a romantic gift. This present is too practical to have romantic connotations associated with it.
- Expensive clothing – Unless your partner comes with you and picks it out, there is no way to tell if he or she will like an item. However, your partner will feel obligated to wear it since you spent so much, which could lead to resentment.
Worrying about whether your partner will like your gift can be stressful. It can help to run your idea by people who know your partner well. If you’re not worried about it being a surprise, you can also go shopping together.
