- LovingYou Cards – This site has hundreds of different free e cards divided into six categories: general, poetry and quotes, love expressions, love and romance, stages of love and holidays and occasions. You can send music and poetry with each card. The recipient can view it on the site for 14 days.
- Romantic eCards – This site specializes in animated cards that have a song in the background as they play. It appears to be an offshoot of 123greetings.com featuring the more romantically focused cards. You can send the cards immediately or defer them for up to 60 days. This would be a great way to surprise your sweetie every day for two months without much effort.
- Fantasy eCards – This site sticks to the more basic cards, with classic romantic photos, such as lovers on the beach. One interesting feature that it adds is the fact that you can add your own sound to the card instead of the stock music. You can also add an emoticon to your message.
- All4Love – This site offers both the traditional non-animated cards and a bilingual section that has cards in both English and Spanish. It also has some cards with simple Flash art.
General e Card Sites with Romance Sections
- Hallmark – The ubiquitous paper card supplier has large "love" and "flirt" sections under the "just because" category. A few of the cards are free, but most cost 99 cents to send. Choosing e Cards to Send
As you can now tell, there are lots of options open to you. So how do you choose which card to send? Follow these tips:
- Think about what your recipient will like. Is he or she more of a traditionalist or does your partner prefer funny or quirky cards?
- Find a card that represents you. Your partner will appreciate that you took the time to pick out something meaningful.
- Make sure the card you select will work on your partner's computer. For example, if he or she only has a dial-up connection, don't pick a card with a five minute long video on it.
- Write a message in it that is from the heart. This is the only thing that really matters.
Considerations
A lot of times identity thieves use fraudulent e cards to try to get people to download viruses to their computers. This makes people wary to open them even though anti-virus software often picks them up. That being said, you may want to tell the recipient you sent an e card so that he or she will know that it's real and to be on the lookout for it. This does kill a bit of the spontaneity, but it is a necessity nowadays.
