Friends with Benefits on Vacation
Reader Question
I have a female "friend with benefits,” and we are not committed or exclusive in any way. If I take her on a vacation trip for which I pay for everything, is it "OK" for either of us to seek out or meet new potential partners while on that trip??

Dear Dave,
The fact that you are asking if it is OK for you and your friend with benefits to seek out potential partners while the two of you are on vacation together, tells me that you are unsure if “your friend with benefits” thinks of your friendship the same way you do. Moreover, you may not be alone in wondering about the state of your friendship. Having accepted the offer of an all paid vacation, your friend may be wondering if you are interested in something more than a friendship with benefits. I see big red flags, in neon signs.
My suggestion is to have a talk before you take the trip with this female friend. Make sure that both of you are on the same page about your relationship and about what taking this trip together means to each of you. If these are any doubts, get things straightened out ahead of time. If you don’t, you risk losing your friendship and have the worst vacation ever. Remember, hell hath no furry like a woman scorned.
