Afro Romance is a primarily U.S. based dating website that caters to people that are interested in meeting a person of a different race than their own. Although the name may imply that mostly African Americans use the site, this is not the case. It lets people search for partners of white, Latino, Native American and Asian descents specifically as well.

The site advertises the fact that it "introduces" people of different cultural backgrounds to one another, which can promote a rich and varied dating life. Another advantage is that people who are interested in interracial dating don't have to worry about meeting someone interesting and then finding out that person doesn't date outside of his or her race. On this site, people know that they will not run into this brick wall.

Getting Started with Afro Romance

The first step to using this dating site is setting up an online profile by going to the homepage. This process requires people to take the following actions:

Pick a user name and password and entering a valid email address
Enter whether they are searching for a man or a woman, how serious of a relationship they want and what their ethnicity is
Typing in their real name, date of birth and country where they live
Agreeing to the terms and conditions and certifying that they are over 18
Clicking the button to log in to the site

Once logged in, they can complete their profiles, adding the following items:

Headline
Eye color and hair color
Height and body type
Religion
Education
Smoking and drinking preferences
Relationship status
Languages spoken
Occupation
Relocation willingness
Star sign

After that, they will have the opportunity to answer several questions about their personality and to write a personal statement as to what they're looking for in a partner. These are the same options available when searching through others' profiles. They also have the option to upload a photo.

It's important to note that not everyone on this site is looking for a long-term relationship; some are just seeking friends or casual hookups, so those that are trying to find a lifelong partner should make that clear in their profile. Also, note that members cannot put any contact information in their profile, including a phone number, email address, physical address or social networking tag. This is a good idea anyway for security reasons.

People without complete profiles cannot access many of the site's features, including the chat rooms and the "flirt" quick message option.

Upgrading Membership

People who enter a free profile on this dating site have what is called a basic membership. This means they have the ability to post a profile, search other people's profiles and respond to emails and instant messages (IMs) that other members send. However, they cannot see who has looked at their profiles, IM other members who catch their eye or send email messages to members as a first contact. To do so, they have to upgrade to a paid membership.

Each subscriber gets a copy of the "Insider's Guide to Interracial Dating" as a free download once his/her subscription processes.

Canceling Membership

If a person is successful at finding a partner or just doesn't want his or her profile listed on Afro Romance anymore, this site, unlike some others, makes it simple to cancel. All someone has to do is go to his or her account page and click on close account. The site will then guide them through three simple steps.
